How to prepare for newborn session
I’m thrilled to work together to capture this incredible moment for your family. Below, you’ll find all the details and helpful tips to make the session a relaxed and memorable experience.
*Preparing for the Session:*
I know the early days with a newborn are both joyous and exhausting. My goal is to ensure that the session is as easygoing and stress-free as possible, allowing us to capture the best images of your little one. Here are a few tips that make a big difference:
For Baby:
*Sleep & Feed*:
Try to keep your little one awake before the session and plan a feeding upon arrival so they’re full and relaxed. Breastfeeding moms : Avoid heavy, spicy, or gassy food day before. Warm bath before leaving can help relax baby.
*Essentials to Bring*:
Please bring extra bottles (formula or breast milk) and a pacifier, even if your baby doesn’t typically use one. They can help soothe baby into those sweet poses. Diapers, burp cloths, at least two swaddle blankets.
*Clothing*:
Dress your baby in an easy-to-remove outfit to make transitions smoother.
*Colors/Props*:
I’d love to hear about any color preferences or props you’d like me to include! Feel free to browse my page for ideas and let me know what stands out to you.
For Parents & Family
*What to Wear*:
Simple is best! Try to avoid logos, busy patterns, and bold or neon colors. Soft, neutral tones like gray or ivory work wonderfully. For moms, a fresh blowout and light makeup (lip gloss, mascara) look lovely on camera. Consider neutral colors for manicures, and if you’re nursing, wear something comfortable for easy feeding. The studio will be kept warm ( around 75-80 F) to keep baby comfortable, so dress in layers. White noise will be used to help keep baby calm. Parents are encouraged to sit back, relax, and let the photographer work their magic.
*Snacks & Comfort*:
Newborn sessions can last up to 4 hours, eat a good breakfast before session , bring plenty of snacks and drinks to stay energized and comfortable. If siblings are attending , bring entertainment ( tablet, books, small toys) and extra snacks.
*A Few Final Notes:*
Arrive on time to maintain the baby sleep schedule . Be patient- newborn session take time, and the baby’s comfort is the priority. If bringing older siblings, discuss expectations in advance and consider bringing another adult to help. Parents should be camera ready if planning to be in photos ( light make up , well-groomed hair, neural nails ).
The best piece of advice I can offer is open communication. Each newborn and family is unique, so I welcome any questions or special requests—whether it’s wardrobe ideas, incorporating siblings, or special props. Thank you again for this opportunity. I’m looking forward to creating some beautiful memories together!
